Ausdrill, with operations spanning Australia, Asia and Africa, acquires Brandrill. The Strange Drilling business is divested and sold to a private group which includes Jeff Branson, Steve Payne and Warren Fair.
JSW Australia is founded by Jeff, Steve and Warren – the J, S, and W. Offices are open in Bibra Lake + Kalgoorlie.
Brandrill acquires Strange Drilling and expands its fleet to 100+ drill rigs.
Strange Drilling is founded with Steve Payne becoming the first employee. Steve is instrumental in building the company’s long-standing reputation and designing its first drills.
The company becomes the first drill and blast contractor to own and operate 120,000lb pull-down rotary drills for iron ore mining.
Brandrill lists on the ASX and quickly becomes one of Australia’s largest contractors providing surface drill and blast, exploration drilling and underground development and production mining services.
Warren Fair joins Brandrill.
Brandrill is contracted to complete all of BHP’s new Satellite Iron Mines, reaching peak production across three mines of 75mtpa of railed product in 2006.
Larger high capacity hydraulic crawler blasthole drills are introduced for gold mining (Terrex – GD5000).
Large diameter (+165mm) blastholes are introduced for bulk waste drill and blast in WA gold mines.
Brandrill becomes the first Australian drilling contractor to move away from air tracks to hydraulic powered crawler blasthole drills.
Specialist drill and blast contracting company, Brandrill, is founded by Jeff and Bruce Branson.
