We have been supporting the South Metropolitan TAFE Thornlie campus as a host employer for its pre-vocational work placement program.
To prepare the next generation of apprentices for the workforce, JSW hosted its first TAFE student as part of the South Metropolitan TAFE pre-vocational work placement program.
The program gives students the chance to get a taste of what it’s like to work day to day in their chosen field.
Matthew Barham, Fitting and Machining Pre-apprenticeship student recently joined the JSW team for three weeks of hands-on experience facilitated by Plant Manager, Michael Kostarelas and the team at the Bibra Lake workshop.
Although the work was unpaid, JSW presented Matthew with a starter set of tools, in a JSW branded tool box of course!
Matthew was very appreciative of the opportunity and gained some valuable skills and exposure to the industry.
We will continue to work with South Metropolitan TAFE, facilitating students and implementing ways to enhance the curriculum and better prepare students for the real world.
