Chris, one of our Exploration Drillers at our Alcoa operation has been recognised by the client for his actions and initiative to ensure a safe environment for crews and the general public.
Our Alcoa operation, nestled in WA’s southwest region, is surrounded by areas rich in flora and fauna and is popular with hikers and trail walkers. Therefore, unlike our more remote projects, crews in these areas need to be aware of the general public in close proximity to drilling areas and the risks this can involve.
Chris was on shift when he noticed two trail walkers walking along the edge of the road near to where crews were drilling. He stopped to ask if they needed help, took the time to give them directions and made sure they were heading in the right direction on the Bibbulmun Track – perfectly demonstrating one of our core values – Safety – and our client’s ‘Care for People’.
Chris followed the correct reporting procedure, raising the encounter at the end of shift to alert other crews be observant of more hikers in the area as the weather continues to cool. Chris’ efforts were recognised by Alcoa and he was awarded with a ‘STOP Coin’ and letter of commendation from Alcoa’s Exploration Manager, Tim Pearman.
